Chic Long Island Gold Coast Hotel Opens With Hip
Energy of Big City Boutique Hotel

GREAT NECK, N.Y., July 19, 2001 - With its billowing window sheers, rosewood wall panels, limestone floors and purple glass flanking its front desk, the lobby of The Andrew has the hip energy of a boutique hotel in a big city. Indeed, that is the point.

The owner, Philip Pilevsky, first ventured into the hotel business in the 1980's with former partners Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager opening N.Y.C.'s original boutique hotels, The Paramount and The Royalton. Now he has his own hotel chain, Philips Hotel Group, featuring The Andrew, here on Long Island's Gold Coast, the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald's, The Great Gatsby.

"Whoever said that style and an appreciation for the well designed environment can't be found outside a big city?," says Pilevsky, known nationally in the real estate business and often seen on Fox television as an international affairs commentator.

Pilevsky's other hotel projects include the Bryant Park hotel, across the street from Bryant Park and The New York Public Library and The Shore Club, a resort and spa in Miami's South Beach, hosting the famed Nobu restaurant, opening this fall.

"Great Neck is the perfect venue for The Andrew," says Pilevsky.  Historically, it has been a refuge for some of the brightest artists and minds of the past century. F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, Fanny Brice, Ernst Truex, Ring Larner, Groucho Marx, Oscar Hammerstein, Leslie Howard and Ed Wynn all resided in Great Neck. In fact, the Andrew was originally constructed to accommodate visitors to the 1939 World's Fair. Now completely renovated, it offers 62 deluxe rooms and suites.

N.Y.C. designer, Shamir Shah created luxurious guestrooms with an aesthetic of today's lushest style. Dramatic yet minimal, headboards are upholstered in an ostrich skin pattern and bordered by a dark cherry frame.  Plush seating with mohair and raw silk accents create warmth and comfort.  Bedside lamps and vases are from the collection of New York City ceramicist, Jonathon Adler.

"Comfort, service, luxury and style-that is our mission for The Andrew," says Pilevsky, who personally oversaw the selection and training of an exceptional staff.

"The Andrew not only provides a place of high design ideals, it fulfills each guest experience with the art of personalized service and amenities."
