Many Responses Confirming Attendance at 86th International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show |
| October 4, 2001 - Since confirming our plans to move forward with the
2001 IHMRS, we have received many words of support and encouragement from
leaders of the industry. These responses not only affirm the call
of our government leaders to get back to business, but they demonstrate
the need for the people of our industry to reconnect and unite in these
challenging times.
A sampling of comments from your industry peers, confirming their plans to support the industry and New York City by being in New York this November for the IHMRS, follows below.
"In the striking spirit of unity that has emerged from the tragedy of September 11th, word is getting out the New York City is open for business. When people ask how they can help with the recover effort, my answer is do the same: do what you can to get back to normal life. That's why I am so pleased to welcome the 86th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show to our City..." * Hon. Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mayor, The City of
New York
"....Your participation in the 86th annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS) will represent yet another important step in our ongoing process of recovery and revitalization. As the hospitality industry gathers together in New York City this November, you will join us in sending a loud and clear message that our nation is united against the forces of terror violence and intolerance..." * Hon. George E. Pataki, Governor, State of New
York
"It is critically important that we all remain 100 percent dedicated to the IH/M&RS. The best way to be positive is to lead by example and show our industry brothers and sisters, as well as the city of New York, that the lodging industry has faith in America's future." * Joseph A. McInerney, CHA, President and CEO,
American Hotel & Lodging
Association "I will be there! No way you will keep me out of New York. Let me know anyway I can help." * Mike Leven, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
U.S. Franchise
Systems "It's up to the hospitality industry to start travelling and pave the way for the country. I'm looking forward to IH/M&RS this year as I do every year." * Carol Beggs, Vice President Technology, Sonesta
International Hotels
Corporation "Following the September 11 tragedy, we took an unofficial poll of our members and found that more intend to attend IH/M&RS than ever before. We recognize that in the short-term it may be difficult to predict the exact health of the industry. Long-term, we know the industry is fundamentally sound and that the IH/M&RS plays a significant role in keeping our industry in its world leadership position." * Alan Benjamin, President, International Society
of Hospitality Purchasers (ISHP), and President, Benjamin West LLP
"Although we all are still reeling from the shock of the September 11 tragedy, we believe that it is important to get back to our normal business way of life. I personally had not planned on attending this year, due to another business matter, instead sending others on our staff. I now have rescheduled and now are sending more people than we ever have to the IHM&R Show, and we encourage others to do the same. The only way we can make business rebound even more quickly is to make it happen at the grass roots level." * Neil Locke, ISHP, Past President and Principal,
Neil Locke &
Associates "The Air Force NonAppropriated Fund Purchasing Office is maintaining 'business as usual' in regard to the IHM&RS trade show. The military lodging community anticipates $11M in purchases during the Show. This will reflect a significant increase in sales from previous years." * Beverly Guillen, Contracting Officer, AFNAF
"I look forward with great anticipation to the upcoming International Hotel Show in New York. I can't think of a better forum for our industry at this time. More than ever we need to meet, talk, and share our ideas and opportunities." * Trisha Wilson, Designer & Founder, Wilson
& Associates
"We look forward to attending the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show and showing our strength and unity during these times of recovery." * Dan Patel, Chairman, Asian American Hotel Operators
Association and
President, DSA Enterprise "Our industry is suffering dearly from cancelled trips, cancelled conventions, cancelled vacations. Let's be part of the solution by getting back to business as usual and by attending the New York Hotel Show. I'll be there, and so should you!" * David Sjolander, Vice President Hotel Information
Systems, Carlson
Hospitality Corporation "I always look forward to coming to the Show each November to see the latest products and services. But this year, it's even more meaningful. By coming together at the Show, hospitality's leaders demonstrate our collective support to the nation, New York City and the industry." * Felix Rappaport, President & COO, New York-New
York Hotel & Casino
"The New York Hotel Show must go on not only because it helps restore confidence in our economy, but because it affords a much-needed opportunity for the people of the hospitality industry to reconnect." * Valerie Ferguson, General Manager, Loews Philadelphia
and Past Chairman, American Hotel & Lodging Association
"I'll be there for the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show! Count me in." * Drew Nieporent, Owner, Nobu
"The attack on our nation has created a uniquely challenging time for all in the hospitality industry. The care, warmth and comfort that restaurants and hotels provide for America is an important tonic in the healing process and critical to the nations economic recovery. I am looking forwarded to having to opportunity to support the industry at the IHMRS." * James A. Kirsch, President & CEO, Abigail Kirsch
