John Q. Hammons Building $40 million, 300-room
Embassy Suites Hotel – Hampton, Virginia

 
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., and HAMPTON, Va. – May 16, 2003 – Mr. John Q. Hammons and the City of Hampton, Va., today celebrate the groundbreaking of Mr. Hammons’ new $40 million, 300-room Embassy Suites Hotel® – Hampton, Virginia, and the city’s new Hampton Roads Convention Center.  Located in Hampton, Va.’s booming Coliseum Central district, the 10-story hotel will adjoin the 344,000-square-foot Hampton Roads Convention Center, which will host 245,000 square feet of retail space featuring restaurants and boutiques.  The all-suite, luxury hotel is owned by Mr. Hammons and will be managed by Springfield, Mo.-based John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc. (AMEX: JQH).      

The much-anticipated groundbreaking event will kick off with a special ceremony including remarks from Mr. John Q. Hammons, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc., Mamie E. Locke, mayor of the City of Hampton, and other Hampton civic leaders.  Construction of the Embassy Suites Hotel – Hampton, Virginia is expected to begin in October 2003 followed by the grand opening in early 2005.    

Hotel guests will only be a short walk away from the city’s new Power Plant of Hampton Roads entertainment and retail center.  A retail, dining and nightlife destination, the entertainment complex soon will be home to a Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, which will open in the fall of 2003.  The Hampton Roads Convention Center is located at the intersection of I-64 and I-664, allowing for easy travel between cities throughout Southeastern Virginia.  Hampton, Va., is serviced by two major airports, Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport and Norfolk International Airport, both just minutes away.  Amtrak is stationed just a 10 minute drive from the development and a covered walkway will connect the convention center and the Embassy Suites Hotel – Hampton, Virginia.

Convenient access to the Hampton Roads Convention Center along with the 3,000 square feet of functional hotel meeting space, including generously sized boardrooms, make the Embassy Suites Hotel – Hampton, Virginia ideal for a variety of events from lavish weddings and celebrations to corporate meetings and conferences.  The hotel’s staff will be able to respond to a group’s specialized needs and provide a full-range of event planning assistance and catering.  

The Embassy Suites Hotel – Hampton, Virginia will feature a variety of amenities for both business and leisure travelers.  The property will have a private bedroom in every suite, a living room with a sofa sleeper, wet bar, refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker.  In addition, each of the hotel’s 300 suites will be equipped with two color televisions, high-speed Internet service, customizable voicemail, Nintendo 64 and WebTV.  Travelers also will be able to enjoy the sports bar restaurant and lounge, as well as full cooked-to-order breakfast during their stay.  Guests will be treated to a complimentary USA Today every weekday morning, laundry/valet service, sundeck, cardio fitness center, 24-hour gift shop, complimentary business center and an oversized indoor pool and whirlpool.
