HONOLULU—9 September 1998 - With $23 million in international
billings in 1997, the architecture firm
of Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo is ranked first among all exclusively-architecture
firms worldwide, in Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) annual survey of “The
Top 200 International Design Firms.” (July 20, 1998)
International work represented 49% of WAT&G’s total billings in 1997. The firm’s 250 employees are currently working on 160 active projects on five continents. According to ENR, “The crippling financial crisis in the Asian market put a crimp in the growth of international design work in 1997, but the major players are not giving up on the region.” As a case in point, WAT&G’s revenues in Asia dropped from $7 million in 1996 to $5.5 million in 1997; but all four of its offices continue to do work in the region. The firm’s work within Asia shifted from Malaysia and Indonesia to China,
Taiwan, and India.
“Our clients have become more global and so have we,” says Ronald J. Holecek, the firm’s president and CEO. “We have active, ongoing projects in 38 countries that are in various stages of design and construction.” Since its founding in 1945, WAT&G has worked on projects in over 119 countries and territories from offices in Honolulu, Hawaii; Newport Beach, California; London, England; and Singapore. The firm is recognized as the world’s leading architecture firm specializing in hospitality, leisure, and entertainment. |
